At a meeting of the Council held in the Vicarage Room on Tuesday July 20, there were present Dr E O Turner (in the chair), Messrs H W Bowden, J Dimmock, A Ward, S Millard, H Tomkins, J Samworth, C Hannell and F T Hearn (Clerk).
BATHING PLACE
Mr Bowden gave an account of efforts recently made to provide an open-air bath, with no result, and it was decided to leave the matter in abeyance for 6 months.
TWITCHELL ALLOTMENTS
A letter was read from the Railway Co agreeing to the Council altering the existing kissing gate to one through which barrows could be taken and the Allotment Committee were requested to deal with the matter.
LIGHTING
The Chairman reported that he had interviewed the Gas Co’s representative relative to the extra lamps and that, on receiving the estimate, a parish meeting would be called.
RECREATION GROUND PAVILION, PRESTWOOD
Mr Giles, the Prestwood Cricket Club Secretary, forwarded a copy of the rules relative to the Pavilion, and the Clerk was instructed to state that the Council approved of them, but must draw his attention to the agreement made at the meeting held at Prestwood some time ago, that the members of the Parish Council residing at Prestwood were to be members of the Pavilion Committee, and should be invited to attend the Committee meetings.
FIRE BRIGADE
The Secretary of the Fire Brigade wrote asking that proper weatherproof accommodation be provided for the engine, and the Fire & Lighting Committee decided to meet and inspect the present premises. A faulty hydrant was reported and the Clerk was instructed to ask the Water Co to see to its repair.
CHURCH STREET DRAINS
Mr Ward drew attention to the stoppage of certain drains in Church Street and the Clerk was requested to draw the attention of the County Surveyor to the matter.
EXCESSIVE SPEED OF MOTOR LORRIES
The Clerk was instructed to write to the Chief Constable complaining of the excessive speed of lorries through the village.
Several small accounts were passed for payment and the meeting closed.
